Over 63 percent students who sat for this year’s regular SLC examination have passed  the exam. Of them, 9,882 students have secured distinction. This is the highest ever pass percentage in the entire 74-year long history of SLC examination. Altogether 58.64 percent students had got through the examination last year, breaking all previous records.

According to results published by the Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE) late Sunday evening, a total of 195,689 out of 307,078 regular students passed the examination. Those making it through the examination dubbed as the ‘iron gate’ this year include 112,975 boys and 82,714 girls.

Altogether 74,707 students secured first division, while 105,592 and 5,508 made it with second and third division, respectively.

Of the total number of students, 1,088 students dropped the exam and the result of another 1,105 have been withheld.

Similarly, 32.24 percent of the total 59,963 exempted students passed this year’s SLC examination. Of them, 635 students passed in first division while the number of exempted students passing in second and third division stand at 15,793 and 2,907 respectively.

Talking to the Post, examination controller Harka Prasad Shrestha said the highest pass percent this year has largely to do with the provision that SLC examination questions would be asked only from the syllabus of Grade X. The OCE started taking SLC examination only from Grade X syllabus since last year unlike in previous years when  both Grade IX and X syllabus were part of the SLC exam.

As the examination board scrapped the provision of announcing the names of board toppers since three years ago, no official declaration of top students was made this year either. The longstanding provision was scrapped citing the publication of names of SLC toppers as unhealthy competition.

The OCE announced the result earlier as compared to last year despite disturbance in its regular work for about three weeks due to Constituent Assembly (CA) election. This year’s SLC examination was held from March 16.

Unlike every other year, the OCE also managed to publish the results before midnight, to the great relief of both journalists and students.

The SLC results can be accessed at www.moe.gov.np, www.doe.gov.np, www.getech.com.np , www.yetinepal.com, www.itaimnepal.org.np, www.soce.gov.np, www.ntc.net.gov.np, www.educationsansar.com, and  www.educationdirectory.com.np, among other websites.

Among others, the results can also be accessed via SMS by dialing 1400 from GSM (pre-paid/post-paid mobile) of NTC, and PSTN/CDMA and GSM mobile(pre-paid/post-paid) of NTC by dialing 1600.

The SLC Board was established in 1934 AD and only 34 students took the exams in the initial run. The students then were from Durbar High School and Patan High School.

Supplementary Exam from August 7

The OCE has announced supplementary examination for those failing in any two subjects from August 7. The schedule of the examination has been published in newspapers that carry the SLC results in detail.
